Organizing A Junk Drawer Can Be A Simple And Satisfying Monthly Routine

Published by admin on

Organizing a junk drawer can be a simple and satisfying task. Almost every home has a “junk drawer.”  That space where strange but useful items land because we don’t know where else to put them. Before you know it that drawer turns into a cluttered mess. Here are some tips to help you declutter and organize your junk drawer:

  1. Empty the Drawer: Start by completely emptying the drawer. This allows you to see all the items you have and gives you a fresh start.
  2. Sort Items: Sort through the items and categorize them. Group similar items together, such as office supplies, tools, batteries, or miscellaneous items.  Depending upon the size of your drawer it may be beneficial to have a few small boxes (or even paper plates) that you can use to contain the items you are organizing.
  3. Declutter: Take this opportunity to declutter. Discard items that are broken, expired, or no longer needed. Be ruthless in getting rid of things you don’t use.  Some items to throw out:  Old charging wires (you know you have some in there), broken pencils, pens that don’t work, pieces of items you may have put together or needed for projects.
  4. Use Containers: Invest in small containers or drawer organizers to keep items separated. This will prevent items from getting mixed up and make it easier to find what you need.  These Bamboo drawer organizers are sleek, efficient and sustainable.
  5. Prioritize Essentials: Identify essential items that you use frequently and place them in easily accessible spots within the drawer.  Really take the time to consider what you DO need to keep in the drawer.  It might help if you think of the drawer as something other than a space to store “junk.”
  6. Label Containers: If you’re using containers, consider labeling them. This makes it easier to locate specific items and helps maintain organization over time.
  7. Keep it Simple: Avoid overcrowding the drawer with unnecessary items. Keep it simple and only store items that truly belong in the drawer.
  8. Regular Maintenance: Schedule regular check-ins to maintain the organization. It’s easy for a junk drawer to become cluttered again, so periodically review and declutter.

Remember, the goal is to create a system that works for you and makes it easy to find what you need when you need it.
